Understanding the Sky Muster™ Modem status light

The Sky Muster modem has a single status light. This status light can give you information about the state of your device.

If you are experiencing a technical problem, the status light can help you diagnose this fault.

No light: This means the Sky Muster modem is currently ‘off’. Check to confirm that the device is connected to a power outlet.

Blue: The Sky Muster modem is online.
If the light is flashing, it indicates that there is network activity.

Orange: The Sky Muster modem is online, but in sleep mode. If you use the Internet, the device will wake up automatically.

If the light is flashing, the Sky Muster modem is in ‘installation mode’. Please wait for the installation to complete.

White: The Sky Muster modem is starting up. Please wait for the modem to finish powering up.

If the light is flashing, the Sky Muster modem is attempting to connect to the Internet. Please allow 6-8 minutes to complete network entry. (If the device loses connection while you’re using it, you may be experiencing a technical fault. Contact Bordernet Support for more information.)

Red: This means that the modem has encountered an error. You might still be online, but you should re-boot the modem using the following steps.

  1. Turn off the SkyMuster modem.
  2. Unscrew the white coaxial cable from the satellite port. Check that the pin is un-damaged. Re-seat the white coaxial cable.
  3. Check the cabling from the satellite port on the modem to the wall plate.
  4. If you find any damage to the SkyMuster modem or internal cabling, contact Bordernet Support for help.
  5. Check the satellite dish. Stand on the ground level of your premises (please do not climb up on to your roof). There should be no obstructions to the dish, and the dish should have a clear line of sight to the horizon.
  6. If you can see any damage or obstructions, contact Bordernet Support for help.
  7. The SkyMuster modem can be affected by heavy cloud cover or strong winds. If you’re experiencing bad weather, make a note.
  8. Turn the SkyMuster modem back on. The SkyMuster modem takes about 6-8 minutes to complete network entry, during which it will display a flashing white status light. After completing network entry, the modem should return to a normal blue or orange status light.

If the red status light returns, turn the Sky Muster modem off, then turn it back on again after the weather clears.

If the red status light continues, contact Bordernet Support for more information.
